I'm a little behind - what happened with Donald Trump?

Trump decided to become a birther, thinking the tea party supporters would give him momentum. After Obama released his long-form birth certificate, Trump was shunned as the birther movement fizzled. The Donald is and always has been a joke. He was in it for the publicity but didn't realize the results would not be in his favor. No surprise to people who have read about and understood his motifs through the years.
